One could say a lot about the Islam-Wise logo. But you will agree with us on one thing: it certainly attracts attention!

The Owl

Why an owl, you may think.

In Arab culture 'de uil' has a meaning that is comparable to the association we have in Dutch with 'uilskuiken'.

And therein lies the crux!

An owl chick still has a lot to learn. Islam-Wise wants to make education even wiser by helping to promote the personal development of parents, teachers and children. So in that sense, the owl denotes a developing individual.

In Dutch culture, however, an owl stands for Wisdom. With our logo we wanted to sketch the link between Islam and the Dutch context.

Wisdom, especially in education, is highly regarded in Islam. It is not for nothing that Luqman al Hakim (Soorah 31, 13 in the Qur'an) in his capacity as an exemplary educator received the epithet 'the Wise' from Allah. Raising and teaching children is quite a challenge. Especially in this time. Wisdom is not an unnecessary luxury. That is why we found Wisdom to be an important value that we wanted to see visualized in our logo.

Islamic Education

But Islam-Wise is of course also about education. Islamic education that is. You could therefore also see Islam-Wise as a shortened version of Islam(itic Education) education, with an English twist to give it an even more global character. Islam-Wise's network extends all over the world!

Divine Inspiration

Finally, the term Education also seems to refer somewhere to an imaginary antonym such as 'Bovenwijs'.

With this in mind, we formulated our Dutch slogan:

Met Wijsheid van Boven wordt Onderwijs Wijzer,

which might be translated as

With Wisdom from Above, Education grows Wiser

although it misses the double meaning in Dutch

(Education in Dutch is 'Onderwijs',

which, if read in two pieces, could also mean 'Under+Wise').

That would suggest that this kind of education definitely needs an 'upgrade';

Qur'an

As Muslims, we get our wisdom from our Holy Sources, the Qur'an and Sunnah of our Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

We read and learn in the name of the One Who created us with the intention of pleasing Him. That is why the Qur'an is also depicted on our logo, as the basis for all religious and scientific knowledge.

Read

The owl reads the Qur'an, so the knowledge did not just come to him. After all, knowledge does not come to you; you have to do something for it, as Imam Malik said.

A person is wise only because of the wisdom Allah has given him. No one has all wisdom, except Allah.

Therefore the Prophet (PBUH) said: "Learn from cradle to grave." No one is finished learning, however wise he may seem. A wise teacher always remains a student himself.

Colors

You might think that the colors of our logo refer to the elements water, earth and fire. To be honest, we just liked the color combination. But it's still an interesting thought.

Glasses

Finally, the owl's glasses subtly refer to the trademark of the founder and director of Islam-Wise, Asma Claassen.

Now 50 , her 'glasses for afar' has degenerated into a 'vari-focus' variant. It refers to her more than 25 years of experience as a professional within Islamic education.

SUVIO

As you may have noticed, Islam-Wise and SUVIO not only share the corporate colors, but also the website.

This is for the following reason. Years ago, Asma Claassen and several colleagues set up the Stichting Uitgeverij Voor Islamic Onderwijs. The products and books developed by Asma Claassen and her colleagues are available through SUVIO.

In addition to products, however, there was also a need for services: help with the production of books, courses and teaching materials. In 2017, the idea arose to offer these services under the project name Islam-Wise from the Foundation. Due to her former work at the ISBO, the services from Islam-Wise were very limited to a few projects for a number of years, but since 2021 these have been expanded to include a full Academy!

Islam-Wise

Since September 2022, Islam-Wise is no longer be part of the Foundation, but will officially continue as an independent company under the same name. You as a customer will not notice much of this, except for a different house style and ditto IBAN on your invoice.
