Background information

SUVIO was founded in 2007 with the support of the Islamic College Foundation in Schiedam to meet the urgent needs of Islamic schools, Muslim parents and their children. At that time, there was a great lack of suitable reading and teaching materials that met the pedagogical, didactic and educational quality requirements that Islamic education sets for its teaching materials.

The first children's book released from SUVIO in 2007, Miracles of Allah's Creation, is still a bestseller and is used in various groups to complement nature education classes. Miracles of Allah's Creation is also very popular within home education or as reading material.

A coloring book 'Children's stories from the Qur'an' was published for the toddlers with the theme Creation.

In the same year, the lesson booklet 'I learn to read Qur'an' was published, the first method for children in which they can learn to read the Qur'an under guidance with Dutch explanation.

In addition to books, SUVIO also develops educational game material to increase the learning pleasure. After almost 10 years, the six-part Islam Quiz is still a great success as an Eid gift or during theme meetings or women's days.

In the following two years, teacher manuals entitled 'Ramadan and Idoel Fitr' and 'Hadj and Idoel Adha' were developed, an addition approved by CITO to the well-known VVE method 'Pyramid' for the lower classes. In addition to the method, two CDs with Islamic children's songs on the same themes were also released. These are now also available as a download version via the SUVIO webshop.

Due to the great need for Islamic children's books with a focus on certain values and associated behaviour, SUVIO decided in 2009 to enter into negotiations with the then British publisher 'The Islamic Foundation' about the copyrights of the well-known Dutch-language series 'Hilmy the Hippo'. This resulted in the appearance on the market of the series Nordin the Hippopotamus, the popular hippopotamus that almost every Muslim child is now familiar with.

Some picture books about Ramadan and Idoel Fitr for beginning readers, 'Is it time yet?' and 'I am learning about Idoel Fitr' followed.

By popular request, SUVIO published the Guides for Muslim Boys and Girls in 2010, in which attention was paid from an Islamic religious point of view to issues that Muslim children are confronted with during puberty, such as their changing body, feelings and environment.

Between 2010 and 2015, the first two volumes of the Islamic History method, "The History of the Life of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)" and "The Islamic History of Europe" were published. Both books were regularly the subject of the well-known National Islamic Knowledge Quiz of the ISBO, in which the groups of 8 of the Dutch Islamic primary schools competed for the coveted main prize, an Oemrah to Mecca.

In 2018 the first part of the series 'Heroes of Islamic History', 'Salaheddine the Conqueror', appeared.

In 2019 the colorfully illustrated, six-part series 'I can everywhere' was published.

Work is currently underway on expanding the history method and a religion method for home and mosque education.
