Guidelines for municipalities
to combat Islamophobia

Published by Movisie in collaboration with (self) organizations from different communities and organizations, including Islam-Wise,  and through feedback from involved municipal officials.

No room for discrimination

At the end of 2021, Islam-Wise, which was then still a project under the SUVIO.nl foundation, contributed as an expert to the development of a guideline for municipalities to combat Muslim discrimination.

Discrimination occurs in many forms in the Netherlands and affects different groups of people. A common form of discrimination is Muslim discrimination. The latest SCP survey into perceived discrimination shows that 55% of Dutch Muslims regularly experience discrimination. In comparison, perceived discrimination among Christians is 21% and among non-believers 25%.

That there is a lot of Muslim discrimination can be deduced not only from experiences but also from experimental research: stating on your CV that you are active on the board of an Islamic organization significantly reduces the chance of being invited to a job interview, even if that experience is relevant to the job. You are also less likely to be invited if you come from a country that is seen as Islamic. The question of how Muslim discrimination can be effectively reduced is therefore an important one. Movisie formulated six tips based on hundreds of scientific international studies that can be found in this guide. #islam_wise #islamic education #islamic education #tarbiya #islamophobia #discrimination #anti_muslim racism

How do you counter anti-Muslim racism

A guide has been developed to provide municipalities with specific knowledge and perspective for action. The infographic below shows the most important findings at a glance. This guide is part of the publication 'No room for discrimination'. You can find more guidelines and the extensive publication about specific forms of discrimination and racism via the link below.
