GAIS South Africa 2023
Muslims in diaspora invest heavily in the development of Islamic education worldwide. In many countries, in addition to formal education, informal education also plays an important role in this development. The expansion of various types of education, the improvement of the quality of the education system and the teaching methods used, the investments in this domain and the improved (physical and digital) infrastructure are just a few examples of recent developments. In short, this field is developing rapidly and this offers new opportunities for education professionals, administrators and teachers worldwide. There is still a lot to be gained for Dutch schools within this universal sector!
Network trip GAIS 2023
From September 29 to October 7, 2023, Islam-Wise and AtlasBridges Netherlands, in collaboration with The Global Association of Islamic Schools (GAIS), are organizing an international network trip to South Africa for administrators, directors and teaching staff from Islamic education. Together we will represent Islamic education in the Netherlands, in all its diversity. The trip aims to strengthen the professional network of Islamic education worldwide by getting to know and learning from each other.
During the GAIS conference in South Africa in 2023, a visit will be made to schools in the cities of Durban and Johannesburg. More information about the exact program will follow in sha Allah at a later stage.
The trip to South Africa is a follow-up to the first international GAIS conference on Islamic education in Istanbul, which took place in October 2022.
During the past year, 15 countries from all over the world were represented at this conference from all continents, especially English-speaking areas where Muslims and Islamic schools are a minority. The language of the conference and the networking trip was and is therefore English.

Preliminary program
A number of agencies are visited, including the Ministry of Education in South Africa and the Dutch embassy, and we provide tailor-made match-making among the schools and institutions present in the sector. We also visit schools to meet administrators, directors and teachers.
The highlight of the network journey will be the GAIS Conference of 2023. During the peripheral programming of this GAIS edition, network meetings are planned between the various educational institutions and private schools in the domain.
A number of appointments are also planned with dignitaries, including the ambassador of the Netherlands in South Africa.
Parallel to our business visit to South Africa, time has of course also been scheduled for a cultural program to get to know the country.

On Monday, July 10, 2023, Islam-Wise in collaboration with AtlasBridges is organizing a digital information meeting for anyone who is seriously interested in participating in the network trip to South Africa, which will take place in sha Allah from September 29 to October 7, 2023. mainly intended for professionals within Islamic education.
